Questions to ask a Prospective Contractor
Renovations can be quite the daunting undertaking; not only because you may have grown accustomed to what you currently have, but changing a space into something new is a big task, for both the person getting the renovation done and the contractor and team that are making the renovation happen.
Knowing the right questions to ask a prospective contractor once they’ve provided you with an estimate (or are about to) is important information. It’s important that all parties are on the same page so they can move forward accordingly.
Here are some questions to consider asking before you decide on choosing a contractor for a renovation project:
How long have you been doing business in this city?
The contractor may have just moved into town, but has been doing renovations for the past 10 years in another city. Or, they may have fled another city for an unspecified reason. Asking this question will help you know for sure.
Who are your suppliers?
Knowing who their suppliers are will give you an idea of the type of relationships they’ve built and you can do your own research as well, in regards to those particular suppliers.
Can you itemize your bid and Is your bid an estimate or fixed price?
These questions are very important as they relate to the bottom line: your money! Make sure you know exactly what you are being charged for in advance, and what the final total price will be in the end to avoid any unwelcome surprises.
When you equip yourself with the right questions you’ll be able to weed out undesirable contractors and only be left with the finest and most reliable contractors in Ottawa.
