Tips to help prepare for a renovation

So you’ve decided to embark on a renovation…hooray! Making the decision to improve your home or work environment is always great, but can sometimes be daunting. Depending on the type of renovation task that is being done, there are certain things that are important to keep in mind. Here are some helpful tips to remember.

Living/Working

Will you be able to stay working and/or living in the place that is being renovated? If the renovation that is being done isn’t too big, then chances are you’ll be able to stay where you are (however, ear plugs may be necessary!). If the reno is a larger undertaking then alternate working/living arrangements may have to be made for the time being. Planning this out beforehand is necessary to avoid any type of confusion or loss of sleep/work.

Budget

Although the best contractors are straightforward about costs in the beginning, you can never be too careful. Firstly, it is very important to ask as many questions as possible pertaining to your renovation before any thing happens. Get a quote done as well. Secondly, whatever amount you were quoted, add some extra money to that (just in case). It is always wise to have a little extra money put aside in the event that the contractors go over budget due to unforeseen issues.

Good communication is always the foundation of any relationship. When everyone is on the same page, a safe, quick and great renovation can occur, which leaves all parties happy.
